Saying No to Sweets after Weight Loss Surgery
If you are a sweet lover, weight loss surgery might be a little tough for you. This was probably one of the hardest transitions for me as a bariatric patient. I was always one that loved desserts. If I could, I would have a dessert after every meal. Sugar is by far the worst thing you can consume after weight loss surgery, which can be really challenging if you have spent your entire life addicted to it.- Kimberly H.

Following Bariatric Guidelines while on Vacation
The weather is finally starting to warm up and we are all starting to come out of quarantine a little more. This means some people are starting to take vacations again. If you have recently had weight loss surgery or are still within your first year after the procedure, you might be a little nervous to take a little break and go somewhere. If you are like me, you might be a creature of habit and hopefully ever since your surgery, you have been forming new healthy habits that you are starting to make into your new routine. When we go on vacation, we are obviously out of our routine.- Kimberly H.

What are you going to do differently this year?
It’s the New Year, which means it is the perfect time to reflect on your life and where you want to improve. I think this is an activity you should be doing at all times throughout the year, but especially at the beginning when you feel renewed. There is a healthy way to do this activity though, because you do not want to go too extreme where it will backfire on you. There are so many times that I have set unrealistic resolutions and within a couple weeks, I have done more damage than good.- Kimberly H.

Flying while Overweight
It’s the holiday season, which means there is a lot of travel going on. This used to cause me severe anxiety when I was at my heaviest because I felt like I could not travel to see my loved ones. Being almost 400 pounds, traveling was not my favorite thing to do. It might be a simple task for most people, but overweight individuals really struggle with the idea of traveling.
Preparing for Thanksgiving
It’s that time of year again. The time that a lot of bariatric patients dread because food is everywhere. Thanksgiving is a wonderful celebration with family and friends, but after weight loss surgery, it can be quite challenging. Life can be very different for bariatric patients because the way we look at food has to change. It takes time to truly learn your new lifestyle after the procedure, which can make the holiday season a little harder.

Going Back to Work after Weight Loss Surgery
Having weight loss surgery comes with big changes. More than likely, you will take off a week or two from work after having the procedure. This is critical in your healing process and also just to get you mentally ready for all the changes. I remember the first few days to weeks after surgery, I enjoyed being alone because I did not want to be around food.
Eating Disorders after Weight Loss Surgery
Weight loss surgery is an amazing tool that provides so many people with success on their weight loss journey. Bariatric patients can drop weight extremely fast after surgery and it truly is an amazing feeling. However, this can also be a dangerous thing for patients because we can get obsessed with the scale. This can backfire and cause us to go to the complete other extreme after weight loss surgery.
Confidence During Summer Months as a Bariatric Patient
Summertime is here, which means it is hot hot hot! As someone who has lived morbidly obese for most of my life, I can tell you I have spent most of my life dreading these months. The thought of wearing shorts has always given me anxiety. I have always been so self-conscious about the way I look, no matter how big or small I am. After bariatric surgery, it is hard to turn that mindset off.
Reward System after Bariatric Surgery
As a bariatric patient, it is an amazing feeling when you hit your goals. This is a lifestyle change and we work so hard to change the way we look at food and exercise. One thing I have learned on this journey is how important it is to have a reward system after weight loss surgery. This is a long process and I truly believe we must reward ourselves for the progress we are making.
Spring is near!
It is officially March which means Spring is almost here! When you are on a weight loss surgery journey, one of the most important things you can do is get up and move. During the winter months, it can be challenging to get the initiative to do this. It feels so much darker and it can be easy to just sit on the couch all day. Spring brings new life which gives so much fresh energy that we all need on a weight loss surgery journey.- Kimberly H.
