If you are a sweet lover, weight loss surgery might be a little tough for you. This was probably one of the hardest transitions for me as a bariatric patient. I was always one that loved desserts. If I could, I would have a dessert after every meal. Sugar is by far the worst thing you can consume after weight loss surgery, which can be really challenging if you have spent your entire life addicted to it.

What are you going to do differently this year?

It’s the New Year, which means it is the perfect time to reflect on your life and where you want to improve. I think this is an activity you should be doing at all times throughout the year, but especially at the beginning when you feel renewed. There is a healthy way to do this activity though, because you do not want to go too extreme where it will backfire on you. There are so many times that I have set unrealistic resolutions and within a couple weeks, I have done more damage than good.

As weight loss surgery patients, it is important that we have goals. Goals keep us motivated and on track with our weight loss. However, sometimes it can be easy to set unrealistic goals that are impossible to achieve. It can be extremely discouraging when you are not achieving your goals.
